This is a well-cast, well-directed, tightly-scripted COLOR film 87 minutes. The cast is amazing for what had to be a fairly low budget RKO picture from the mid-1950’s. Randolph Scott was an established star while Forrest Tucker, J. Carrol Naish, and Denver Pyle were all established talented Western performers and Edgar Buchanan was one of the best Western character actors of all time. Terrorizing 1866 Indiana the Reno brothers gang uses the town of Seymour as a safe haven paying off three crooked town officials. Sent in to clean up the gang is Peterson Detective Agency operative James Barlow who poses as an outlaw to gain the confidence of the officials and the thick-headed brothers. In reality he is a special agent from Chicago is sent out west to bring in the notorious Reno brothers after many agents have not returned!

  1. Old western towns were made of wood, dried up and blew away. After a fire Columbia was built of brick. It still stands today, pretty much like it was. Brick buildings are the first give away in a Western, that filming was in Columbia.

  2. During the film you can see them go under the old aqueduct that brought water in to mine Gold back in the day. The town is still there. You can ride the trains and see old number #3. You will recognize the buildings and you can ride the stage. You can go into the Wells Fargo office, eat ice cream. It’s about 150 miles East of San Francisco on a line with Stockton. People fly in on small planes and walk up to the town. You can go up past the Big Valley TV ranch if you drive up.
